Héliodrome is the result of the 2006 meeting between rapper Khyro (formerly Atach Tatuq) and multi-instrumentist YPL, a meeting that gave rise to a rarely explored blend of rap and experimental music. Following the release of their first album, La lumière ordinaire du jour, on the Endemik label, the two musicians were joined by three others to perform on two limited-release EPs of improv music: Il n’y a plus de fleurs au jardin des hommes et Allons, livrons-nous au culte des étoiles. In 2010, another meeting, this time with Berlin musician Jayrole during a recent European tour, led to an improv project and the limited-release CD Swearing at the Sun, which has earned critical praise on the experimental scene. Since then, one of the group’s earliest collaborators, Éric Gingras (Pas Chic Chic, Fly Pan AM), has become a full-fledged member, turning Héliodrome into a trio.
