In the Pines

Andrew Whiteman is a musician who plays in Broken Social Scene and came into poetry working in the bindery at the Coach House Press in Toronto. Ariel Engle is a singer who currently studies vocal makams and sings in Montreal’s Land of Kush. In The Pines is their Alice Notley tribute — her text, which is routed in both american folksong and delphic visionary traditions, is here brought back into song. This performance marks the debut of what will be a full album of music based on Notley’s In The Pines.
