Marlene Millar

She is a Canadian filmmaker, editor and former dancer presently based in Montreal. Early experimental work in dance and film (The Woman and the Sink, Le Toit, More Real) has been screened in dance and film festivals internationally as well as broadcast. Marlene has received support from the Canada Council and the National Film Board for her work and was awarded a Pew Fellowship to participate in the 1999 National Dance/Media Project at the University of California in Los Angeles. There she produced the documentary Eko & Sun Hea, a journey beyond with colleagues Philip Szporer and Carmella Vassor. Further collaborations include Universal Tea (part of the feature documentary World Festival of Sacred Music broadcast on KCET — PBS, Los Angeles), Creating Across Cultures (commissioned by UCLA Center for Intercultural Performance), and Standing at the Edge, We Dance (Wild Child Productions/WYBE — PBS, Philadelphia). Moments in Motion - a series of documentary dance videos - is currently in development.

This Fire is her first collaboration with spoken word artist Ian Ferrier.
