Monday Morning ErectionComposed of Ghislain Roy, Jean-Francois Lauda and David Lafrance, Monday Morning Erection is a group of Montreal artists, sound engineers and musicians working as a duo or trio. Since 2003, the group has been calling on techniques, inspiration and ideas from 20th century experimental music. At first used as a social and community link, over time the project has become a dynamic creative platform. Their hybrid sound, deconstructed and overexcited, leaves a mark of vibrant authenticity on an assumed underground culture scene. Most instruments serve to multiply the quotes taken from discs or personal recordings, or from private or public life. Multiple layers are carried by rhythms or destroyed by distorsion walls. The mixture brings the themes and sensations of hatred and passion crashing together. Turntable, contact mic and a bundle of electronic effects give an identity to sources of banal, fragile origin. The group’s name refers to a palette of ambiguous sentiments: potency, vulnerability, pressure to conform and illusions of freedom. Featured in event
